ABOUT SAM SHEARON
Sam Shearon, also known as ‘Mister Sam Shearon’, is a dark artist born in Liverpool, England. Specializing in horror and science-fiction, Sam’s work often includes elements inspired by vintage tales of monsters and madmen, dark futures, post-apocalyptic genres, and classic literature.
Sam has illustrated album artwork and merchandise designs for rock
bands such as Rob Zombie, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Ministry, Rammstein,
Jason Charles Miller, Powerman 5000, Biohazard, DOYLE, American Head
Charge, Fear Factory, HIM, ORGY, Godhead, A Pale Horse Named Death, King
Creature and Kill Devil Hill.
Other clients include Coffin Case, ESP Guitars, Dean Guitars, Schecter Guitar Research, Cort Guitars and Pro Tone Pedals.
His
artwork can be found in Fortean Times and Paranormal Magazine as well
as many IDW Publishing releases, including cover illustrations for the
Angel series, 30 Days of Night, The X-Files, KISS, Mars Attacks, Judge
Dredd, and the fully illustrated H.P. Lovecraft’s The Call of Cthulhu,
Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray. Sam Shearon has also created
illustrations for cover art for Clive Barker’s Hellraiser comic book
series. He has also both illustrated, story-boarded and directed
animated motion books for Clive Barker’s Books of Blood series.
He
has appeared for signings at various conventions across the United
States over the years, including San Diego Comic-Con of which he has
signed books and drawn live for eleven years in a row as of 2019.
In
regards to the mysteries of the unexplained, including cryptozoology,
the paranormal and the supernatural, Sam has created the artwork and
logo designs for the unexplained podcast ‘Into The Fray’ hosted by
Shannon LeGro. He has also illustrated ten film posters and covers for
the documentary company Small Town Monsters. Sam has also illustrated
ten book covers for author David Weatherly, most notably the ‘Wood
Knocks’ series of books, (the Journals of Sasquatch Research) of which
Sam has also written a chapter for, in volume four.
Other clients include Ken Gerhard, David Hatcher Children, Whitley Strieber and Loren Coleman.
Sam’s
artwork can also be found on the book covers of various authors under
‘Vesuvian Books’, with clients including Dan Elish, Marie D. Jones,
Thommy Hutson, Mary Ting, Liana Gardner, Alexandrea Weis, Lucas Astor,
Julieanne Lynch and Jonas Saul.
Sam studied at the University of Leeds in the College of Art & Design, West Yorkshire, England and received a BA with honours in Visual Communication. Shortly after, he became a qualified Art teacher gaining a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Huddersfield University.
His solo exhibition titled “A Walk on the Darkside,” featured
forty-five pieces of his original artwork including 6-foot-tall statues,
biomechanical monsters, and giant canvases depicting images of horror
and the macabre. The exhibition drew attention from national newspapers
including The Daily Telegraph as well as BBC Radio One. The show
attracted protests and boycotts over some of the darker-themed content,
but was extended a further six weeks due to popular demand.
Sam has since exhibited in various galleries both in the United Kingdom and the United States.
Sam is known for his work in the field of cryptozoology, compiling artist impressions from eyewitness accounts. He has created many book and DVD cover artworks for releases that cover the subjects of Cryptozoology, Ufology, Ghosts, the Supernatural, the Paranormal and all manner of the Unexplained.
He currently resides in Los Angeles.
